Team Meeting for 2007 Match - 21:30 Onwards - Monday 2nd April, Crowded House, Val Claret

Stade Francais

A friendly game of touch 7's rugby was held on the Front de Neige between a local Tignes/Val d'Isere combined side and French Division 1 team Stade Francais.
SF came home as 6-5 winners in the evening blizzard. Weeman managed to poach a try whilst the majority of his team-mates puffed and spluttered their way around the pitch.
Stade Francais are mostly remembered for their shirts

New Team Mascot

This years team mascot has been chosen to fly the flag for the squad. Aussie Aaron will lead the team out onto the pitch this year in what is to be his final ski season before heading back to Oz - Good on ya mate.....!

New Vice-Captain

Tignes Barbarians are pleased to announce the appointment of new Vice-Captain Weeman (aka Russ from the Crowded House).
May God bless him and all that sail in him

French Poachers

Not content with using the referee as a 16th player, the French side have been doing their best to poach British players.
How many centuries have we had to endure these Gallic underhand tactics?
In law, treason is the crime of disloyalty to one's nation. A person who betrays the nation of their citizenship and/or reneges on an oath of loyalty and in some way wilfully cooperates with an enemy, is considered to be a traitor.
For those interested in playing for the French please take note of the following piece of legislature;

# Treason Act 1351:

* encompassing the Sovereign's death;
* killing or conspiring or attempting to kill the Sovereign's wife or eldest son;
* violating the Sovereign's wife, or the Sovereign's eldest unmarried daughter, or the Sovereign's eldest son's wife;
* levying war against the Sovereign in the United Kingdom;
* adhering to the Sovereign's enemies, giving them aid and comfort, in the realm or elsewhere;
* killing the King's Chancellor, Treasurer (an office long in commission) or Justices.

May the greater exponents of the Dark Arts of Rugby hone their skills on such traitors.

The Truth is out

The neutrality of the French referees drafted in for the game has always been the subject of many a heated debate between the two sides. The picture below shows the referee himself getting involved in a flare up between two players. He can be seen on his knees in the centre of the photo wearing a grey top.
Eye witnesses have stated he was one of the first to start throwing the punches in an attempt to break up the disagreement. How far does this overstep the mark of neutrality? You decide.

2006 DVD

All was looking good for an Autumn release of this year's match on DVD.........
Until a power surge took out the storage disks and wiped the whole lot. Thankfully we still have the originals.
We are currently working on transferring all the material to new storage drives so we can have the DVD ready within the next month.

Brit Players score for French

The two highest try scorers for the French team this summer were actually Brits.
In the spirit of sharing the two boys decided to share their talents with the French for the 6 Stations tournament and a memorial game against Val d'Isere. With 3 tries each, Russ & Kevbo easily outshone the froggies and showed them how to score.

Lee to sign up?

Lt Gen(ret) Lee Lewis-Morgan-Jones has thankfully decided not to rejoin his regiment and go out to Iraq. Lee will be running the Snowtec Lac shop opposite the tabac for the winter season.

Plonge is AWOL

Where has he gone? Apparently Plonge has decamped to London for the summer but his actual whereabouts are still to be confirmed.
Rumours continue as to whether marriage is in the air......

Beach Rugby

This summer's beach rugby tool place in Tignes in mid-July. Organised by the Comite des Alpes de Rugby, the even was well supported locally and featured several current and ex French internationals.
Allegedly there was a post-night club game played between the girls and the boys that degenerated after the first tackle. The pitch was raked clean ready for the first game Sunday morning and all evidence was removed.

6 Stations

A try each for the only two Tig Baba's players in this years tournament.
A combined 100 Fous du Score/Ovalins/Barbarians side came a commendable second place on the 6th of August. Also present, and maintaining the party atmosphere was a select team from St Jean de Maurianne. Despite trying to turn every game into a mass brawl, Les Ex et Lents from Albertville won this years trophy.
It is, however, unlikely they will be invited back to the tournament due to their atrocious discipline.
Despite the adverse weather conditions a high level of 'champagne rugby' was on display from the local sides.

The third half was hosted by Russ at the Crowded House in Val Claret and all present did their duty in rounding off the day in time honoured fashion

Prima Donna's Pain

During the recent memorial match in Val d'Isere, the snobbery of certain of the town's individuals came to the fore. In a game played in appalling conditions on a water-logged pitch, the combined Tignes team displayed their true grit when Val d'Isere once again brought their own rule book.

Current Standing Room only Policy

All seats are to be removed from the buses in Tignes. Sources inside STGM say that in an effort to raise everyone's fitness level all buses will become standing only.
